News: Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph

Montblanc in fact traces its roots back to the production of luxury writing instruments—which it still creates to this day—but turned its attention to watchmaking in 1997. A relatively young brand, it is increasingly creating beautiful and highly complicated timepieces, at affordable price points—especially since it made its first in-house movement in 2008.

The Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph is an exceptional example of the brand’s recent horological achievements. Using the Montblanc calibre R230, which beats at 21,600vph and has a power reserve of 50 hours, the watch features a number of desirable complications—including a monopusher chronograph with a column-wheel and vertical coupling.

The dial is divided into two parts. In the top half are displays for timekeeping and a date subdial, with chronograph subdials directly below. Underneath this, above 6 o’clock, the watch exhibits Montblanc’s ExoTourbillon, which was first debuted by the brand in 2010. It features a stop seconds mechanism, and places its balance wheel outside of the tourbillon cage.

The watch is available in both a rose gold or white gold case, with a different dial decoration for each. The rose gold version features a subtle white dial with lacquered subdials, complemented by long, elegant swordlike hands. The white gold case, meanwhile, features a shimmering aventurine dial which depicts a starry night sky—the brand claims this as a tribute to Portuguese navigator and explorer, Vasco da Gama. Shining down upon the guilloché finish of the midnight blue subdial is a diamond in the shape of the Montblanc star.

Both pieces are finished to an exceptionally high level, demonstrating Montblanc’s dedication to making timepieces of phenomenal quality.
