Description
This is a rare “Alaska Project” Moonwatch. The Alaska Project was launched in 1970 (hence the Limited Edition number) as a successor to the original Speedmaster that had been used successfully for the Apollo missions. NASA planned further operations for Apollo—missions 18, 19 and 20—including expeditions to explore the even more desolate dark side of the moon, and the Speedy as it had been first conceived needed an upgrade. Omega used new materials and methods to meet the parameters for the next generation watch—code name Alaska Project—including a zinc-coated dial to reflect solar heat and a detachable aluminium case for protection against extreme temperatures and shocks. Both the watch and extra Apollo missions were eventually cancelled, but the former was finally released to the public in this form in 2008.
This Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 311.32.42.30.04.001 has a white dial and a bracelet strap. This Omega has undergone a thorough inspection of accuracy, functionality and condition at our Omega certified service centre to determine the level of reconditioning required to meet our strict standards. It has also been checked against our records to ensure authenticity. All our watches have a 24-month warranty for your peace of mind.
