Feature: Five Under-The-Radar Omega Models

We’re all aware of the iconic Omega models that have pushed the brand to the forefront of watchmaking, such as the Omega Speedmaster and Omega Seamaster. But what about those models that have slipped through the cracks in people’s memories? Well, we think it’s time to jog that memory now, with five under-the-radar Omega watches.

Museum Petrograd

When Omega created a magnificent watch with a stylised tonneau case specially for the Eastern European market in 1915, it was “Petrograd” that stuck as its nickname, after the city itself. However, the city “Petrograd” no longer exists—after ten years, it was swapped out for Leningrad in 1924, and in 1991 this was changed to St. Petersburg, as we know this great Russian city as today. Part of a limited series, the Petrograd was revived from Omega’s past via the brand’s charming Museum collection.

De Ville Tourbillon Co-Axial Master Chronometer

Omega isn’t a brand renowned for its mega high-end timepieces, let alone the use of tourbillons, and that’s what makes this model so special. With an understated design, this piece features an attention-grabbing tourbillon in the centre of the dial—there’s certainly no missing it. The minute and hour hands surround the circumference of the tourbillon giving a slick, seamless feel to this timepiece.

Omega Seamaster Ploprof 224.30.55.21.01.001

Considered one of the, well … more unattractive offerings from Omega, the Ploprof looks like something you’d expect from Italian watchmaker Panerai, with its outlandishly bulky design and protruding crown. Nonetheless, the Ploprof certainly boasts an interesting backstory, one that involves a race against Rolex and a chance to prove to COMEX how capable Omega watches are at withstanding incredible pressures under water.

Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow 3658.50.31

Another feature as well as tourbillons which isn’t particularly common with Omega timepieces is a skeletonised dial. Omega sometimes exhibits its movements via an open case back, but with the Speedmaster Broad Arrow 3658.50.31, you get a double dose of inner-workings glory—with three chronograph sub dials and easy-to-read hour and minute displays.

Omega Omegamania 5885.73.53

This ladies watch will certainly add a pop of glitz and colour to any look. Its pretty, purple Mother of Pearl dial and rose gold diamond studded bezel—in the shape of Omega’s logo—dazzle when paired with its red leather strap. There are more understated colourways in the collection, of course, but all share an element of the X-factor through the diamond-set bezel and elegant understated design.
