News: The A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret Tourbillon Handwerkskunst

The new A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret Tourbillon Handwerkskunst is the seventh watch to be added to the illustrious Handwerkskunst collection. In 950 platinum, the rectangular Cabaret is something truly special. Not only does it include a hacking one-minute tourbillon—which I will get to in a moment—it also features a bucket load of over-the-top details that would put a David Fincher movie to shame.
The first thing that grabs your attention when it comes to this watch’s dial is the decoration, evidently inspired by the Art Deco period. The lozenge pattern is hand-engraved onto a black rhodium-plated section of the full white gold dial. This section, along with the rest of the dial, is then coated with a thin enamel layer to amplify the texture and colouring of the engraving. The lozenge pattern—for those that haven’t already noticed—also extends to the outer portion of the dial in the form of six hour markers.
Moving around the rest of the dial, we can see the brand’s staple oversized date window, satisfying symmetry and gothic styling; as well as two rhodium-plated gold sub-dials—one indicating the seconds and the other, the power reserve—and a rather large aperture at 6, through which we can see the tourbillon.
In terms of technical achievements, the 21,600 vph Calibre L042.1 is up there—it has 370 parts, 84 of which are for the tourbillon alone. Speaking of the tourbillon, it makes one full rotation every 60 seconds and features a hacking system that allows the user to stop the tourbillon and precisely set the watch.
Even though tourbillons are notoriously power-hungry, this watch somehow manages to achieve a 120-hour power reserve—which is particularly handy given that this is a manually winding watch.
The Calibre L042.1 is beautifully finished and boasts three ¾ German Silver bridges—the main one decorated with Lange’s tremblage technique and the other two, the ones that support the tourbillon, decorated in the same hand-engraved lozenge pattern as the dial. The movement also has a littering of gold chatons, blued screws, rubies and diamonds.
True to the form of the Handwerkskunst collection, this Cabaret Tourbillon is limited to just 30 pieces, meaning if you have the means and the desire to do so, I would act fast—it’s not like you’re going to see one of these incredible pieces on the pre-owned market any time soon.
