News: TAG Heuer And Porsche Finally Team Up – The TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph
TAG Heuer and Porsche is a match made in heaven. One is a Swiss watch brand rich with automotive history, and the other is one of the most respected car manufacturers to ever exist—so why haven’t they collaborated before? Who knows? But one thing is for certain: I bet they wish they had done it sooner as February 4th, 2021 marks the first watch released in their newly acquired partnership—and it’s gone down rather well with the community.

You would be forgiven for thinking that the new TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph looks exactly like the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph released in July 2020, because well, it is one. Okay, okay, it isn’t the exact same watch, let’s run through the differences, shall we?
The first difference is the colour scheme. To match Porsche Motorsports’ racing colours, the Porsche Chronograph is made up of three key colours: black, red and white. Next, it’s to the grey asphalt-textured dial and the Porsche branding found on the bezel—replacing what would have been “Tachymetre”. Then it’s time to flip over the watch and reveal the last of the differences between this and the watch released last year. While looking at the Calibre Heuer 02, you will notice that not only is the black, red and white colour scheme continued, but the rotor-weight now resembles that of a Porsche steering wheel.

Powering this 44mm stainless steel chronograph is the aforementioned TAG Heuer made Calibre Heuer 02. Featuring a column wheel and vertical clutch—to ensure that the chronograph runs both smoothly and accurately—the Heuer 02 runs at 28,800 vph and boasts a pretty impressive 80-hour power reserve—but hey, you already knew that, because for some reason it is written on the dial.
There have been countless motorsport collaborations in the past. Remember that in-your-face yellow Panerai with the big ol’ horsey on it? I do too. I’m glad this isn’t one of those; the Porsche Chronograph is something much more subtle, and I think that’s why both the community and I love it.
