In 1949, Panerai replaced its patented radium-based Radiomir with the newly developed, safer and self-luminous substance, Luminor. This tritium-based material would inspire the name of the brand’s historic watch model, the Luminor. With its distinctive case shape and crown protecting bridge, the Luminor has become an icon in watchmaking.
