Watchfinder, owned by Richemont, has launched an initiative designed to make it harder for criminals to profit from the theft and resale of luxury watches.
Enquirus is a new neutral global digital platform designed to help reduce jewellery- and watch-related crime. This trusted space allows for watch and jewellery data to be securely uploaded, searched and shared by multiple parties including manufacturers, police forces and insurers.
How it works
The initiative encourages watch owners to simply create an account and register their new timepiece with Enquirus as soon as it is purchased so that it forms part of their collection.
It also encourages pre-owned retailers to check all their stock as standard so that they know the provenance of their watches is legitimate.
Ultimately, both steps will help lost or stolen watches to be traced back to their legal owners.
“This reliable solution brings together multiple stakeholders to serve customers and the entire industry by facilitating borderless cooperation between police forces and insurance partners,” said Jerome Lambert, CEO of Richemont.
“By providing free access to customers and industry partners, the opportunity to sell stolen watches becomes more prohibitive, with the ultimate objective of reducing the incentive to steal watches in the first place.”
Collaborative effort
Enquirus has been designed in collaboration with a wide range of international partners including law enforcement agencies, insurance companies, the pre-owned market, consumers and watch manufacturers themselves.
As the initiative grows, the more effective it will be for companies and individuals wanting to register, declare and search for lost and stolen watches.
